![]() ![]() ![]() Is there a way to use Screen Mirroring without losing Universal Control? Bonus - is there a way to use Screen Mirroring to one monitor on a dual setup without the other monitor going black?Ĭan I use my 2011 iMac as a monitor on my new Macbook Pro (Monterey)? I just upgraded my last Macbook Pro to an M1 model running Monterey but it appears Apple are trying to outlaw the connection I used to have to my iMac so I can use it as a second monitor, which i only do while working from home, it's still my family's workhorse PC the rest of the time. I can only extend my MacBook Pro to the built-in display on the MacBook Air and I still lose Universal Control and the monitor goes black. Trying to do it again for the purposes of writing this question, I can't even figure out how to extend the MacBook Pro to the monitor. It would be AMAZING if there was a way to extend to an AirPlay Receiver and maintain Universal Control functionality (with a huge bonus if it didn't cause my MacBook Air's display to go black). When I'd do that, I'd lose Universal Control (which makes it unusable) and the build-in monitor would go black (not optimal, but not a 100% deal-breaker). Last week, I was able to use "Screen Mirroring" and extend my MacBook Pro onto the monitor plugged into the MacBook Air which was acting as an AirPlay Receiver. The Magic Keyboard and Trackpad from the MacBook Air can "fall off" of the left side of the monitor and control the laptop on the left. To the left, I have a 2019 Intel MacBook Pro. To the right, I have a 2020 M1 MacBook Air plugged into the monitor via Thunderbolt 3. I have a Thunderbolt 3 monitor sitting in the middle of my desk. ![]()
